Stardust DVD

An adaptation of the Neil Gaiman novel of the same name, Stardust brings a strong cast together for an enjoyable family feast, with plenty to enjoy. Stardust mixes in romance and adventure, all in a fantasy movie guise, as it follows Tristan on his quest to retrieve a fallen star for the beautiful Victoria.

Only it soon becomes clear that there’s a lot more going on as Tristan makes his journey (not least a companion more diverting than the aforementioned Victoria). Michelle Pfeiffer, for instance, returns to high profile movie making (after quite a break) in the role of the evil witch (Lamia), while there’s space too for Robert De Niro’s pirate and an odd cameo from Ricky Gervais.

Seemingly one of a wealth of family films that made it out of the blocks off the success of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Stardust doesn’t quite hit those heights, but it has quite a sporting go. It’s an uneven tale, albeit one told with enough passion and enthusiasm to enc (buy it here…)

Chuck – Complete Season 2 on DVD

Chuck Bartowski, ace computer geek at Buy More, is not in his right mind. That’s a good thing. Ever since he unwittingly downloaded stolen government secrets into his brain, action, excitement and a cool secret agent girlfriend have entered his life. It’s a bad thing, too.

Because now Chuck is in danger 24/7. Executive producers Josh Schwartz (The OC) and McG (Charlie’s Angels, We Are Marshall) merge techno-gadgetry, martial-arts smack-downs, narrow escapes and gorgeous spies in short shorts into this action comedy about a millennium Everyguy.

Ashlee Simpson – Autobiography

You hear a lot of echoes throughout Ashlee Simpson’s Autobiography, but her big-eyed, bright-smiled sister Jessica isn’t behind a one of them. That’ll come as no surprise to fans and anyone who has caught the “darker” Simpson sister on MTV, which is responsible for hurtling the hard-edged “Pieces of Me” onto radio playlists across the country and creating a mini frenzy over this CD’s content.

Stoking the gossip-fuelled flames is track three, “Shadow”. On it, 19-year-old Ashlee spills her childhood resentment over her sister’s attention-gulping career, ending up on a conciliatory note that has the surprising effect of making the Simpson divas’ drama seem believable (“Everything’s cool now and the past is in the past,” she sings). Chuck – Complete Season 1 DVD

Zachary Levi was born to play Chuck. A computer nerd who finds himself thrust into the role of a Government secret agent, it’s a career-making role in a television show that’s got plenty to offer, whether you’re along for the action or the comedy.

Every episode from Chuck’s first season is gathered together in this set, and thus we get to see how a geek effectively became a wannabe-Jack Bauer. It goes without saying that Chuck has a lot of fun with its premise, and it happily asks you to suspend your disbelief as plausibility quickly goes out of the window.

But so what? For when the action and comedy are as strong as they are with Chuck, that proves to be no price to pay whatsoever. Mix in the surprisingly high production values and the very witty scripts, and you have a surprise hit of a show that’s hard not to warm to. One of the chief reasons for this is Levi in the title role, but Chuck also boasts good supporting turns from the likes of Adam (buy more…)

Scream If You Wanna Go Faster by Geri Halliwell

Like her or loathe her, Geri Halliwell can’t seem to do anything quietly, which is why her second solo album is appropriately titled Scream if you Wanna Go Faster.

Gone are the strings, breathy vocals and Diva like aspirations of her debut Schizophonic, Geri instead settling on a more straightforward pop approach. After the pointless motor-engine samples of “Dragster” (bizarrely a track on their own) she launches into “Scream if you Wanna Go Faster”, a 1960s tinged rock track.

What follows is a rather hotchpotch of style and influences that refuse to settle into a cohesive whole. Geri serves up helpings of acoustic ballads in “Circle Round the Moon” and “Love is the Only Light”, up-beat funk with “Shake Your Bootie Cutie” and “Feels Like Sex”.

She is again extolling the virtues of girl power in “Strength of a Woman and even slips back into Spice Girls mode for “Don’t Call Me Baby”, which sounds rather similar to her former group’s “Stop”. Geri’s vocal r (Read More and Buy Here…).

Turn It Up by Pixie Lott

After the surprise success of her debut single ‘Mama Do (Uh Oh Uh Oh)’, Kent-born starlet Pixie Lott’s debut album deals in the same brand of sassy teen-pop.

Most of the songs here are potential singles, and all have Lott’s signature bouncy pop sensibility. Most notable aside from her chart-toppingdebut release are ‘Here We Go Again’ (produced by the legendary RedOne) and the singles ‘Boys And Girls’ and ‘Cry Me Out’.
